About Monadnock Center for Violence Protection (MCVP):
Monadnock Center for Violence Prevention is a local non-profit organization that provides support services and shelter to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Last year, MCVP worked with over 1000 victims in our community and provided prevention education programs to over 6,000 local students.

The Monadnock Center for Violence Prevention, Inc. began as the Monadnock Services for Battered Women in 1978 to assist battered women in exploring options for living without violence. Within two years, the name was updated to Women's Crisis Services of the Monadnock Region.

In July of 1999, the organization opened the first battered women's shelter in the region. In August of 2002, shelter capacity was significantly expanded with the purchase of a four-bedroom handicap accessible building.

In August of 2003, the organization adopted the name Monadnock Center for Violence Prevention, Inc. Even with the name change, the group remains focused on assisting victims of domestic and sexual violence through crisis intervention, peer support, court advocacy, safe housing, and referral to other services. However, the new name reflects the growing efforts to reduce the incidence and impact of domestic and sexual violence by advocating for public policies and providing education, awareness, and prevention programs.

The center now operates in Keene, New Hampshire. They serve all of Cheshire County and 14 towns in western Hillsborough County.   This year, the need for services is great and funding is tighter than ever.
