SAFETY
A car so safe, it scares the competition
The 2012 Hyundai Elantra has active safety features to help you avoid accidents, and passive safety features in case an accident happens.

  Electronic Stability Control
ESC sensors measure the difference between a driver's intended path?when a turn is less or more than intended?and applies appropriate braking force to individual wheels to help regain control. ESC also includes Traction Control System (TCS), which reduces wheelspin when accelerating.

Vehicle Stability Management system
The comprehensive Vehicle Stability Management system links and optimizes the function of all active safety features. It incorporates Motor Driven Power Steering, ESC, TCS and ABS in potential collision situations.
Traction Control System
By reducing wheelspin in various adverse traction conditions, including inclement weather, Traction Control gives more stable and predictable acceleration characteristics for a more confident, controlled driving experience.
Brake Assist
In emergency braking situations, many drivers may not apply sufficient braking force to achieve the shortest possible stopping distance. Brake Assist helps detect emergency braking and ensures the maximum braking force is immediately applied to minimize stopping distances.

Six airbags
Some car makers try to get by with the bare minimum. We prefer the opposite, filling the interior with six airbags to help protect you and your passengers in case of an accident.

Dual rear-door side-impact beams
Engineered specifically for the safety of your passengers, in the event of a side impact, this is a new and important link in the chain of safety for the Elantra.

PERFORMANCE

Consider this the end of wheezy, underpowered compacts.
A lightweight, high-tech engine helps the 2012 Hyundai Elantra achieve the best power-to-weight ratio in its class, and a class-leading standard fuel efficiency at 40 MPG, highway. That's better than the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla or any other competitor.
The 2012 Elantra breaks convention, and years of compact car complacency.

6-speed auto transmission
This is not your ordinary compact ride. With its sophisticated 6-speed automatic transmission, the Elantra generates smooth acceleration for the highway, while balancing power and comfort for in-town traffic.

1.8L, 4-cylinder engine with D-CVVT
The all-new aluminum cylinder block and lower crankcase create a 30% lighter engine from the previous generation. Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (D-CVVT) optimizes intake and exhaust valve timing with stable combustion for maximum performance at every speed. The continual optimization of camshaft phasing improves engine performance and fuel economy while reducing emissions.

MPG!!
With its exceptionally low coefficient of drag (0.28), a highly efficient 4-cylinder engine, and a responsive 6-speed transmission, the Elantra goes farther with less.
At 40 MPG highway for all models, it's more fuel-efficient than Civic and Corolla.

A different kind of performance
With the backing of America's Best Warranty, the Elantra continues Hyundai's tradition of keeping maintenance costs at a bare minimum.  The 2012 Elantra also topped the competitive compact segment, winning ALG's award for the highest residual value in its class.

Exterior
A compact car with style. Imagine that.
For years, we've been conditioned to accept boring compact cars. The 2012 Hyundai Elantra bucks convention in a big way with its distinctive "Wind Craft"-inspired shape. Style features like wraparound headlights, front fog lights, and muscular wheel arches give it a lower, sportier profile. This is a compact car like none before it.

Proximity Key
No more fumbling for the key in your pocket or purse. The Elantra recognizes your key fob and, with a push of a button on the door handle, immediately unlocks the door for you. Now you can get in, fasten your seatbelt, hit the push button start and go.

Elantra Limited
The Limited includes attractive bodycolor side mirrors with turn signal indicators that increase visibility and safety, a one-touch power tilt-and-slide sunroof with sliding sunshade, and 17-inch, 7-spoke alloy wheels that are not only a stylish addition, but also give you more rubber on the road.
